VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Canada – The Utah Mammoth maintained its defensive momentum, holding Vancouver to a single goal in a 4-1 win.

The Mammoth (14-12-3, 31 points) faced the Vancouver Canucks (10-15-3, 23 points) at Rogers Arena on Friday, December 5.

Utah speedster Logan Cooley leads the team with 14 goals while adding nine assists for 23 points. He trails Clayton Keller’s 25 points (9 goals, 16 assists) and Nick Schmaltz’s 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists)

Vancouver forward Kiefer Sherwood (12) is the only Canucks skater with double-digit goals. Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson lead the team with 22 points apiece.

Offseason trade acquisition JJ Peterka scored two goals and added two assists, helping his team snap a four-game losing skid in a 7-0 win over the helpless Anaheim Ducks.

Lawson Crouse (7) and Dylan Guenther (10) lit the lamp with two first-period goals. Ian Cole (2) and Peterka (12) increased the advantage to 4-0 in the second 20 minutes.

The Mammoth kept the pedal to the metal in the final period, adding a trio of goals.

After Liam O’Brien’s second goal of the year gave the club a 5-0 lead, Peterka scored his second in as many periods to extend the lead to 6-0.

Clayton Keller added a final goal as Utah regained some of the confidence it had skated with earlier in the season.

Pregame

Per Tourigny, no changes to the lineup which means Tanev & Hayton will be scratched again.

Sticking with what worked against Anaheim. https://t.co/hjk9UYrMee

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 5, 2025

Tourigny on scratching Barrett Hayton:

“At this point, if we win we keep the same lineup. It’s not a knock on those guys…he will be back. He’s an important player for us.”

“But right now, there’s no other choice for us after our effort last game to keep the same lineup.”

First Period

Great stick from Daniil But on that last shift.

Canucks were moving the puck really well but he stayed in position, cut down the angle, and got a stick on a shot from a dangerous area.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Canucks are buzzing in the O-zone but Vejmelka is already playing out of his mind here early.

Several odd-man situations with the puck coming across his crease but he answered them all.

That last was particularly impressive as he burst from one post to the other.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

The Canucks are getting a lot of bodies and pucks to the net right now.

Utah needs to shut that down or it’s going to end poorly.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Look at Cheeks battle in front of the net and then grab a Canucks jersey.

Kid is 6’6. Not afraid either.

Not a guy you want to mess with at all.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Utah to the PP after the Canucks are called for tripping.

SERGACHEV SCORES ON THE POWER PLAY FROM DEEP AND UTAH LEADS 1-0!!!!!

The fellas capitalize on the power play!

🚨 1-0, Mammoth. pic.twitter.com/pXHjCr8l6l

— Utah Mammoth (@utahmammoth) December 6, 2025

Peterka, Cooley, Guenther, Keller & Sergachev on that top PP unit to light the lamp.

First time Utah has scored back-to-back PP goals in two games since October 25 & 26.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Getting bodies in front of the net is critical to any power and the reason Utah was able to score here as the goalie didn’t have a chance to track that puck.

1-1 on the man advantage tonight. https://t.co/RdrF1ub8Sx

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Second Period

But is playing with confidence and consistently going right to the net.

Utah has needed a player like that desperately this season.

If he keeps this up, it won’t take too long to score his first NHL goal.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

The Hockey Gods are shining down on Utah right now.

Vancouver just generated multiple 2-on-1 situations, but the pucks sailed over the net.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Dylan Guenther to the box for a high stick.

Canucks PP on deck.

2P: 9:30 | 1-0 Utah

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Ian Cole just laid out in the crease during the PK to help out Vejmelka.

Guy has absolutely no fear or concern for himself.

Just wants to block pucks.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Utah back to full strength.

Crouse saved a goal as the PP expired as he extended his stick to interrupt a shot right on the backdoor.

That’s winning hockey. Bailing out your teammates. https://t.co/wJXqJWVUqA

NICK SCHMALTZ TIPS ONE IN FRONT AND THE MAMMOTH LEAD 2-0!!!!!!

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Pretty crazy what this hockey team can do when they get bodies in front of the net consistently. https://t.co/4GkPcabQ5N

4 on 4 hockey as Stenlund and Karlsson will both sit in the box.

Utah continues to get bodies in front of the net as they lead Vancouver 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Third Period

Bains scores on a redirect.

2-1 Utah

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Sherwood delivered a questionable hit on Stenlund and then 82 broke Sherwood’s stick with a slash in retaliation.

That’s a really poor penalty from Stenlund.

Cannot take one there.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Utah back to full strength.

The Mammoth BARELY escaped that PK as Vancouver nearly scored twice. https://t.co/DD8TaDc2q4

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Guenther was called for goaltender interference which negated But’s goal. https://t.co/Z1ddslF7Z8

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Canucks are going to push hard here with roughly 5 minutes to go.

Utah needs to respond as they lead 2-1.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

He’s up and skating.

Looks ok. https://t.co/vA01xjYA9b

KEVIN STENLUND SCORES ON HIS BACKHAND TO GIVE UTAH A 3-1 LEAD LATE!!!!!

Canucks goaltender to the bench.

Extra attacker on for Vancouver.

1:40 to go.

Delay of game penalty against Sergachev as the puck sails over the glass.

6 on 4 for the Canucks.

MARINO SCORES ON THE EMPTY NET AND UTAH LEADS 4-1!!!!!!

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 6, 2025

Utah wins the hockey game 4-1!

They’ve outscored their opponents 11-1 over the last 6 periods and Vejmelka has stopped 58 of the last 59 shots.
