Philadelphia Flyers rookie defenseman Ty Murchison is set to play in his very first NHL game tonight, and he’s opening up about the ‘extreme emotions’ he’s experiencing as any young player would.
When the Philadelphia Flyers take on the San Jose Sharks tonight, it will be the NHL debut of defenseman Ty Murchison.
He has been inserted into the Flyers lineup for tonight’s game and will be on a pairing with fellow defenseman Noah Juulsen.
Extremely emotional. There have been a lot of periods throughout the last 48 hours where I’ve been getting a bit choked up just thinking about it because I’ve been thinking about this every day of my life.
Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet described Murchison as a ‘culture guy’ and that he impressed during preseason play.
He’s the type of guy that’s a culture guy. I thought from Day 1 – and I don’t think we gave him an exhibition game – he was really impressing me in practice. He was pissing guys off, he was blowing up guys on cycles and stuff like that. And he has played really well.
Murchison also said that he will have lots of family and friends in attendance for the game from all areas, including California, Arizona and Prince Edward Island.
Ty Murchison Is Making His NHL Debut With The Flyers Tonight
Murchison was taken by the Flyers with the 158th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft while playing for the U.S. National Development Team.
He would go on to play four years at Arizona State University before eventually making his professional debut with the AHL affiliate Leigh Valley Phantoms last season.
So far this year, he has four points (1G, 3A) in 21 games in the AHL.
