The Edmonton Oilers didn’t hold a formal practice today, but tons of players were on the ice trying to keep up the momentum from recent games.

After two blowout wins with 15 goals in their last 2 games, the Oilers seem to be showing signs of a turnaround. The success still needs to be sustained, and they’re looking for a win against a struggling opponent tonight.

Oilers expected to run same winning lines, Skinner gets start in net

The Oilers held a full practice yesterday where they maintained the same lineup as the last two games. They’re expected to run the same lines tonight.

Insiders have also confirmed that Skinner will be tonight’s starting goalie. In addition, it was a highly attended skate for an optional practice, indicating some enthusiasm and urgency from the group.

It’s not an excuse, but the Oilers were seriously lacking this kind of practice time during their early struggles this season.

With multiple long road trips and a packed schedule, the Oilers are just now seeming to get something consistent time on home ice to practice – and it’s starting to pay off with their success.

McDavid has also mentioned the team’s confidence appears to be returning after their big wins. That’s a meaningful change and visible in their body language – as opposed to their tired, defeated attitude earlier. This season entirely has to be a tough mental task after 2 Cup Final losses.

Maybe all they needed was a few days of home cooking and some hard work at practice. Their next stretch of games will be key to maintain this level of play, and start climbing back up the standings.
