Connor McDavid just signed a two-year extension in Edmonton, but now players have revealed where he will play on his next contract.

This off-season, there was nothing but talk about the Edmonton Oilers and the future of their captain, with many speculating that Connor McDavid could head into the new season without a contract extension.

However, just days before the regular season began, he shocked the NHL world, signing a two-year extension with a massive discount on top, locking himself in for three further seasons as the team look to finally achieve their goal of winning the Stanley Cup.

NHL players speculate on Connor McDavid’s future

Now, an anonymous poll of NHL players has ben conducted, with one of the questions posed being; where will Connor McDavid be playing in three years time?

Unsurprisingly, 56% of players believed that he will remain in Edmonton, but that leaves 44% that see him departing the Oilers, especially if the team can’t win a Stanley Cup in that time.

The most popular new team named was the Toronto Maple Leafs, with 10% of players polled believing that’s where he will end up, while Vegas, Chicago and New York all got over 4.5% of the votes.

In the off-season, this would have been a much more exciting topic, but with McDavid now locked in for three full seasons more, it’s safe to say that this is the furthest thing from McDavid’s mind.

In 2025/26 thus far, Connor has 14 goals and 42 points in 29 games played, and while the team hasn’t been on fire, he’s been at his best once more, and all of this outside talk means nothing to him right now as he continues his pursuit of hockey’s ultimate prize.
