Following the Habs 6-1 loss last night to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Montreal Canadiens have called up Jacob Fowler, Adam Engström and Owen Beck.
The Habs goaltending simply has not been good enough and calling up Fowler will certainly give the team a wake up call. Montembeault has especially struggled, and two of the goals he allowed when he came in relief of Dobeš simply cannot go in. Dobeš has had some good starts, and while the goal average is high, it’s hard to fault him on several of the goals.
Going forward, I’m not quite sure what the plan is, but I’m assuming they will be going with a tandem of Dobeš and Fowler for the time being, while Montembeault gets a break to work on his game. Again, I don’t know what shape or form this will take so I guess we will simply need to wait and see.
With these two being called up, again I’m not quite sure who comes out for these two to enter the lineup unless there is an injury. I know Gallagher is banged up, but other than that, I’m not sure. If it’s a healthy scratch scenario I would guess Veleno or Davidson (who is playing well) for Beck and Strubble or Xhekaj for Engström, but my bet would be Strubble.
All in all, time will tell how the Habs plans to utilize these players. It should be an interesting next few games!
