Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has been linked to another Eastern Conference club as trade talks begin to heat up around the National Hockey League.
With less than eight months until he’s eligible to sign a contract extension, rumors are running wild regarding Quinn Hughes and his future with the Vancouver Canucks as some teams have already inquired with Patrik Allvin about the asking price for their captain.
“Once Vancouver announced they were open for business, sent that email around to the league, I do believe there was a conversation, at least one, between the New Jersey Devils and Canucks about Quinn Hughes and I stress, I do not believe there is anything imminent, I don’t even know that they’re anywhere far along. But I do believe that conversation was had about where things stand and where they might be going.” Elliotte Friedman said on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday.

So far, the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings are the only two teams known that have spoken to the Vancouver Canucks about their captain, and if Patrik Allvin ends up making Quinn Hughes available on the trade market, there will be at least two dozen other clubs that’ll try their best to acquire the Orlando, Florida native.
During an appearance on the FAN Hockey Show on Monday, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared that one team that has the assets needed to get a Quinn Hughes trade done is the Pittsburgh Penguins, but it’s unclear if the Canucks captain would want to play there.
“Elliotte said he thinks Pens have the pieces to make a Quinn Hughes deal.
Elliotte adds he has no idea if Quinn would want to go there.”
The Penguins currently occupy the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference and probably aren’t too keen on wanting to give up their first round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, but do have other pieces that may be of interest to Patrik Allvin.
Among the pieces Patrik Allvin could target include 19-year-old defenseman Harrison Brunicke, Finnish winger Ville Koivunen, and Pittsburgh’s first round pick in 2022, Owen Pickering.
However, even if Pittsburgh does express interest in Quinn Hughes, it’s safe to assume they won’t be the favourite to land him, with the Detroit Red Wings and New Jersey Devils having assets that fit Vancouver’s needs a lot better.
