Francis C. Hammond Middle School is among three regional venues that will host a new, co-ed youth hockey league led by the Washington Capitals in the new year.

Registration has opened for the team’s first-ever Capitals Street Hockey League (CSHL), intended for kids ages 5-12. The season’s eight weekends of games, lasting from March through May 2026, will take place at three venues, including the middle school at 4646 Seminary Road, according to a release.

The league invites D.C.-area kids “to put their skills to the test in a fun, low-stress environment,” according to the Capitals. “No prior hockey experience or gear is required to participate.”

The new program will host three age divisions: U6 for kids ages 5-6, U8 for kids ages 7-8, and U12 for kids ages 9-12. Each division is expected to have a minimum of four teams. All age divisions will play on the same day at the same location in addition to sharing a weekly practice day.

The league will also host play at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston and Ridge Road Recreational Park in Germantown, Md. Each location is home to one of the team’s 14 donated inline or outdoor street hockey rinks across the region.

Registration, which ranges from $149 to $179, includes a T-shirt, as well as a 15% holiday discount for those who register this month.

The CSHL is part of the team’s Street Caps initiative, which aims to provide D.C.-area youth with opportunities to engage in hockey off the ice through events like after school programming and birthday parties.
