The Washington Capitals saw their top minutes-eating defenseman, Jakob Chychrun, leave practice early on Wednesday.

RMNB’s Katie Adler caught the moment that Chychrun left the ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex while filming a video of former Caps winger TJ Oshie watching the team practice from one of the benches.

Oshie appeared to say something to Chychrun, who was followed off the ice by assistant athletic trainer Murphy Luatua.

Chychrun did not return for the end of the skate, and head coach Spencer Carbery was asked if he had any news on the 27-year-old blueliner during his post-practice media availability.

“Yeah, he should be fine,” Carbery said. “It was precautionary.”

Chychrun’s potential injury scare comes after the Capitals played the last three games without their other top offensive defender, John Carlson. Carlson did skate on Wednesday, and Carbery said he would be another game-time decision against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.

In 30 games this season, Chychrun has recorded 25 points (11g, 14a) and is skating a team-leading 23:22 of average time on ice per game. He leads all NHL defensemen in goals with 11 — one ahead of Colorado Avalanche rearguard Cale Makar.
