The Chicago Blackhawks welcome the New York Rangers to the United Center on Wednesday for a nationally televised, Original 6 matchup.

The weekend was a disaster for the Chicago Blackhawks. In fact, disaster is probably putting it likely. It was the worst two-game stretch for the Hawks since 1951, giving up 13 goals over just two games. Nonetheless, the Blackhawks are done on the west coast for awhile, and return to the United Center on Wednesday night for an Original 6 tilt with the New York Rangers.

Chicago Blackhawks vs New York Rangers Preview

The Blackhawks are vastly improved from a season ago. That said, they really want to wash the bad taste out of their mouths from this past weekend. Home cooking at the United Center should certainly help, especially with an underwhelming Rangers team coming to town.

Nothing beats an Original 6 matchup. Naturally, the game is nationally televised, and will start early to draw in the east coast crowd. Former Blackhawk Artemi Panarin leads the visiting Rangers in scoring, but the rest of the team is having a down season aside from defenseman Adam Fox and forward Mika Zibanejad. The Rangers are more of a team looking for an identity rather than one that is properly ready to contend.

Even after the Blackhawks’ rough weekend, the team is still one game out of the playoff picture with games in hand over the Utah Mammoth and San Jose Sharks. Connor Bedard’s breakout season can drive this Hawks team back into the Stanley Cup Playoff picture. That said, the Blackhawks will likely return to a 12/6 forward/defenseman structure with Sam Rinzel’s recent demotion to the AHL.
