An Original Six franchise has reportedly entered the mix for Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes as trade talks around the National Hockey League continue to heat up.
Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes could be the top name available leading up to the trade deadline in early March, if General Manager Patrik Allvin decided to go in that direction with the former Norris Trophy winner.
Whether it’s this season or in the summer, it feels like a a trade involving Quinn Hughes is inevtivable at this point, with teams like the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings already speaking with Patrik Allvin about the blueliner, while the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers have also been mentioned as potential fits.”I mean, no, I’m doing what I can. I was on the ice so it wasn’t like, if there was a call, me, Jim and Fitzy hopped on the call, you know? I wasn’t a part of that, but obviously I’m aware things like that can happen, for sure.” Quinn Hughes said about recent trade rumors involving him.
Original Six franchise linked to Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes
It’s safe to say that if and when Quinn Hughes is made available by the Vancouver Canucks, Patrik Allvin is going to have more than half of the National Hockey League lining up for their chance to land the star defenseman and it looks like you can add another Original Six franchise to that list.
In an article for The Fourth Period on Tuesday, NHL insider David Pagnotta reported that the New York Rangers are a team to watch and he wouldn’t be surprised if they took a shot at trying to land Quinn Hughes.
“With all the attention on the New Jersey Devils and Quinn Hughes lately – and yes, the Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers have been lumped in there, too – another team to look out for is the New York Rangers. That would allocate a lot of dollars to their backend, but it wouldn’t shock me to see the Blueshirts taking a swing.” Pagnotta said.
However despite the two teams having recent trade history, the New York Rangers will have a tough time trying to put together a package that’ll entice Patrik Allvin and the team’s management group as others like New Jersey and Detroit have assets that Chris Drury doesn’t have in The Big Apple.
Among the pieces that the New York Rangers could potentially part with in a Quinn Hughes trade include former first overall pick Alexis Lafreniere, forward prospect Brennan Othmann and defenseman Braden Schneider.
