The Edmonton Oilers are set to recall a defenceman from the AHL for their upcoming road trip, says insider Bob Stauffer.

The Oilers have a number of players out of the lineup with injury: Roslovic, Walman, Kapanen, and Philp. With recent bad news that Walman will be out longer-term, the Oilers need an extra player for an upcoming 5-game road trip.

Edmonton Oilers will recall defenceman, move Jack Roslovic to LTIR

On today’s edition of OilersNow, inside Bob Stauffer suggested the team will recall a defenceman for their upcoming 5-game road trip beginning on December 13th.

In addition, Jack Roslovic would be moved to LTIR to create roster and cap space.

«You could foresee a scenario where Jack Roselvic ends up in LTIR at $1.5 million, because they’re going to need to recall a D. And oh, by the way, the best defenseman in the American League is injured right now as well.»

– Bob Stauffer

Referencing the best defenceman in their AHL system, Stauffer is likely referring to Cam Dineen. He’s got 68 games of NHL experience and has put up multiple strong years in Bakersfield, but he’s out with injury.

The next top candidate to be called up would be Josh Brown, a depth option the Oilers have used in the past.

Another would be European Free Agent signing Atro Leppanen. Known for his offensive talent, Leppanen needs some time in the AHL to hone his defensive game – but he’s put up an impressive 15 points in 21 games from the blueline. The Oilers had a similar player last year with Klingberg, and he’d at least be a more interesting player to see than Brown.

It’s unfortunate the Oilers will lose Roslovic and Walman for a few more weeks, but they do have the quality depth to withstand some absences. Hopefully they can keep up their streak of recently better play, and keep moving up the standings.
