Alex DeBrincat opened the scoring 1:02 into the first period with the first of his two markers on the night, slapping a one-timer home on a cross-ice feed from Patrick Kane. Detroit extended their lead just over three minutes later on a shot from defenceman Axel Sandin-Pellikka and led 2-0 after 20 minutes.

DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin added second-period markers 1:28 apart, doubling the Red Wings’ lead through two periods of play.

Farabee got the homeside on the board 8:02 into the third, after winning a penalty shot by being hooked as he strode in towards goal on a short-handed breakaway. On his penalty shot attempt, he grabbed the puck, skated to the left circle before cutting to the slot, then snapped a shot over goaltender John Gibson’s left pad.
