Some new information this week has painted a bleak picture on the Vancouver Canucks’ start to the NHL’s 2025-26 season and it’s clear some changes are needed.

After a difficult 2024-25 campaign, one which saw General Manager Patrik Allvin part ways with forward J.T. Miller and at the end of the year, Rick Tocchet left for the Philadelphia Flyers, but heading into the offseason, there was plenty of optimism that things would turn around in the team’s favour.

“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said in late October.

New information paints bleak picture on Vancouver Canucks’ 2025-26 season

Tuesday’s loss to the Detroit Red Wings marked Vancouver’s 30th game of the 2025-26 campaign and as we inch closer to the halfway point of the season, some new information shows how bad this year has been for the Canucks organization.

“The Vancouver Canucks have reached the 30-game mark of the 2025-26 season with the worst record they’ve had in the past five years.” Cheung said.

She added, “Aside from 2025-26, the 2021-22 season was Vancouver’s worst 30-game start to the season throughout the past five years. In that season, the Canucks only posted 13 wins and a .467 points-percentage throughout their first 30 games.”

At this point, even though they’re just six points back of the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, it’s safe to say that the playoffs are likely out of reach for this Vancouver Canucks group and some big changes are needed, both on and off the ice, in order for the organization to turn things around and become competitive again next season & beyond.
