NHL Insider Frank Seravalli revealed what the Detroit Red Wings will have to give up to acquire defenseman Quinn Hughes if a trade comes to fruition.
And it’s a steep price, as the Red Wings will not only be acquiring a former 1st-round pick but also the captain of the Vancouver Canucks. He’s an institution there.
We should assume that Steve Yzerman will have to dig deep into the Original Six team’s pockets to make a deal between himself and Patrik Allvin happen.
NHL Insider Frank Seravalli on the Canucks’ request for Captain Quinn Hughes:
The Vancouver Canucks are in the hunt for a young top-end center, which the Philadelphia Flyers are out on, as they don’t have a center that could fulfill that description.
They have one prospect in Jett Luchanko, but it’s unlikely they would part ways with him.
The Detroit Red Wings could step in and make a deal with the Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Quinn Hughes
With center prospects such as Nate Danielson and Marco Kasper having established themselves in the AHL and now the NHL, they could be who Patrik Allvin would want in a trade for the Canucks captain.
Danielson was originally a 9th overall pick in 2023 and has slotted into the Red Wings lineup as a depth center option this season. He’s scored 6 points (2-4) in 16 games as a Red Wing.
While center Marco Kasper had an excellent season in 2024-25, putting himself in the Calder Trophy race, despite his 37 points (19-18), he’d learn his fate later, losing to defenseman Lane Hutson of the Montreal Canadiens.
We assume one or the other could be part of a package to acquire Quinn Hughes in trade from the Canucks.
