The Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat furthered his case for a spot on Team USA in 2026 following his three-point performance on Wednesday vs. Calgary.

While the Olympics remain two months out, Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat is capitalizing on his ability to showcase his talents.

Wednesday was another chance for General Manager Bill Guerin of Team USA to change his opinion. The Red Wings matched up with the Calgary Flames in the Scotiabank Saddledome tonight.

DeBrincat would score off a “Showtime” pass, which saw #88 use a backhand for a cross-ice pass, which #93, DeBrincat, scored a beautiful goal with ease by completing a one-time shot from the circle.

Alex DeBrincat’s goal would come at 1:02 minutes into the first period, establishing the Red Wings’ control of the game early against the Flames. Assists on the goal were Patrick Kane and Andrew Copp.

And who can argue against it? DeBrincat is an option Guerin and Team USA haven’t given him a shot, and with how well Team USA did against Canada in the Four Nations Face-Off, it seems like they could use new faces in the lineup.

“Obviously I believe in myself,” DeBrincat said this week. “I believe I should be on that team. I feel good right now. With that being said, there’s a lot of good players. I’m sure they have some hard, tough choices.

Despite making the final, Guerin remains dedicated to bringing back old faces, some of whom could fit. However, those missing include Patrick Kane and DeBrincat.

DeBrincat is playing at above a point-per-game pace with 31 points (14-17) in 30 games for the Red Wings on the 2nd line. Back in November, we suspected that he was one of two Red Wings players falling off of Team USA’s projected roster. Could that change?

It’s time for Guerin to reconsider his options for Team USA in 2026.
