In Pittsburgh on Thursday night, the opening faceoff was delayed by 30 minutes due to an accident.

The game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins was supposed to start at 7:00 p.m., then it was pushed back to 7:30 p.m.

We’re talking about a truck carrying a large load of steel, with a figure circulating of 46,000 pounds, or about 20 tons. The important news is that no injuries were reported despite the impressive images. Let’s just say it’s the kind of delay you accept without complaining.

Meanwhile, the matchup already had a special flavor on the ice. The Penguins had a record of 14-7-7 for 35 points, and the Canadiens arrived with a 15-11-3 record for 33 points.

Both clubs were scoring 3.14 goals per game, but the gap was clear on defense, with 2.71 goals against per game for Pittsburgh and 3.55 for Montreal.

The rookie goaltender was also drawing attention because it was his first game in the National Hockey League. At 21 years old, Fowler arrived in a context where every point matters and where comparisons speak loudly, especially with the Penguins’ power play at 32.39% compared to 25.61% for the Canadiens.

Offensively, Cole Caufield led Montreal with 16 goals, while Sidney Crosby had 18. Nick Suzuki entered with 33 points, and Crosby had 31, which gave a clear picture of the danger on each side.

The Canadiens lead 1-0 after the first period after a beautiful goal by Alexandre Texier.

In the end, it’s rare for an NHL game to be delayed because of a road accident.

But if it prevents injuries and everyone gets home safely, it’s the only statistic that really matters.
