The Edmonton Oilers have announced roster moves to place 3 players on Injured Reserve while calling up forward Max Jones.

Oilers move 3 players to injured list, recall Max Jones from AHL

According to a statement released from the team, Jake Walman will move to LTIR while Jack Roslovic and Connor Clattenburg will be placed on IR.

The difference between LTIR and IR is at play here. Placing any player on either list frees up a roster spot, but only LTIR provides salary relief. Walman is only making $3.4M this season, which does free up considerable salary space for now.

What’s interesting is the Oilers didn’t announce that Walman’s move to LTIR was retroactive. If the move wasn’t, that means Walman would have to miss at least 24 calendar days of 10 games. He recently re-aggravated an injury while trying to return, which may delay his timeline significantly.

Both Roslovic and Clattenburg seem closer to a return. Roslovic was previously reported to return near the holiday break, while Clattenburg was ruled out for only a week.

Max Jones is a solid call-up for his ability to play 4th line minutes just for a few games. With only 6 healthy defenceman too, insiders expect the Oilers to call up a defenceman as well.

We’ll see if another roster move precedes the Oilers road trip beginning this Saturday against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
