ROCHESTER — On a night when the Century/John Marshall and Mayo girls hockey teams came together to support a worthwhile cause, the intra-city rivals shared the spotlight and the scoreboard.

Isabella Scranton made 30 saves for Century/JM and Amelia Ranfranz made 19 for Mayo in her first Rochester rivalry game, as the Panthers and Spartans played to a 1-1 tie at the Rochester Recreation Center on Thursday.

The teams also came together to raise money for Sophie’s Squad, a foundation based in Sartell, Minn., which raises money for and awareness of teenage mental health issues.

Mayo opened the scoring with just more than five minutes remaining in the second period, when Taylor Kurtz scored with an assist from Milania Black.

Century/JM answered 5:29 into the third when Quinn Stewart set up Tegan Carroll for the tying goal.

Scranton and Ranfranz took care of the rest in goal. Century/JM’s Scranton stopped eight shots in the first, 11 in the second, five in the third and five in OT. Ranfranz made five saves in the first, eight in the second, four in the third and two in OT.

Century/JM (6-4-1) plays at Shakopee at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mayo (4-2-1) plays at Northfield at 7:15 Tuesday.
