For unspecified reasons, the Detroit Red Wings have removed a key forward from Thursday’s lineup against the Edmonton Oilers.
Ahead of the matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, the Detroit Red Wings have removed key forward James Van Riemsdyk from the lineup.
JVR has been a piece in the lineup that has helped the Red Wings surge in the Atlantic these past few weeks, as he’s been on a goal-scoring streak lately. Since October 12th, he’s been the perfect reinforcement for the Red Wings.
This season in 21 games, he’s scored 8 points (7-1), and in the last five games with the Red Wings, he’s scored 4 goals, continuing his hot streak on the fourth line with JT Compher and Michael Rasmussen as linemates.
In his place, depth forward Jonatan Berggren will be taking his spot.
Detroit Red Wings forward James Van Riemsdyk is absent, so Jonatan Berggren will have to step up in his absence
James Van Riemsdyk’s absence from the lineup is troubling, as ‘unspecified’ reasoning could be anything.
The former 1st-round pick has played 25 games this season and has been a bottom-six option for the majority of the year.
In his spot will be forward Jonatan Berggren, the former 33rd overall pick who has played 14 games and scored 6 points (2-4) this year.
This could be another chance for Berggren to prove he’s capable of handling a role with less responsibility, in a checking position on the fourth line.
The Detroit Red Wings signed James Van Riemsdyk to a one-year, $1 million average annual value contract, which expires at the end of the 2025-26 season.
