The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin this weekend, and two former Miami Hockey student-athletes —Reilly Smith and Jack Roslovic— will be part of the chase for the Cup.

Smith and the Vegas Golden Knights open the postseason at home against the Minnesota Wild Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN to begin a best-of-seven series. Vegas won the Pacific Division with a record of 50-22-10 and set a franchise record for goals in a season. Smith, who started the season with the New York Rangers before returning to Vegas via trade in March, has put up 40 points (13-27-40) this year in 79 games between the two clubs. He won his first Stanley Cup with Vegas in 2023 in his previous stint with the team.

Smith is tied for ninth in Miami Hockey history with 66 goals and finished his RedHawk career (2009-12) with 122 points, which ranks in the top 30 all-time. He was a First-Team West All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist in 2012.

Roslovic and the Carolina Hurricanes begin the playoffs against the New Jersey Devils and will host Game 1 of their best-of-seven series Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPN. The Hurricanes went 47-30-5 during the regular season, and Roslovic produced 39 points (22-17-39) while skating in 81 games. He is making his second consecutive playoff appearance after helping the Rangers to the conference finals a year ago and is looking for his first career Stanley Cup.

Roslovic played for the RedHawks during the 2015-16 season, putting up 26 points on 10 goals and 16 assists, and was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team that year before signing with Winnipeg to begin his professional career.
