Montreal Canadiens

Defenceman Adam Engstrom draws into the lineup tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Arber Xhekaj will sit.

Rookie goaltender Jacob Fowler is the confirmed starter against Pittsburgh as he will make his NHL debut.

Engstrom has appeared in two games with Montreal this season, making his NHL debut against the Utah Mammoth on Nov. 26.

In the AHL with the Laval Rocket, the 22-year-old has five goals and 16 points in 20 games.

Engstrom, Fowler and forward Owen Beck were all recalled on Tuesday night.

St. Louis Blues

Robby Fabbri will be wearing a Blues uniform for the first time since October 2019 tonight against the Nashville Predators.

Fabbri inked a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis on Wednesday.

Fabbri began his career with the Blues after being drafted 21st overall by the team in 2014. He spent three full seasons with the Blues, helping the franchise capture its first-ever Stanley Cup title in 2019 before being dealt to the Detroit Red Wings in November of 2019.

The 29-year-old spent the 2024-25 season with the Anaheim Ducks, where he scored eight goals with 16 points in 44 games.

San Jose Sharks

Alex Nedeljkovic will start for the Sharks tonight as they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight.

Yaroslav Askarov will dress as the backup goaltender after he missed Tuesday due to an illness.

Nedeljkovic, 29, is 4-6-2 in 14 appearances this season with an .899 save percentage and 3.02 GAA.

Detroit Red Wings

Defenceman Erik Gustafsson has been recalled from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions.

Forward Mason Appleton has been placed on the injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 29.

Gustafsson, 33, has one goal and 14 points in 14 games with Grand Rapids this season.

In 516 career NHL games, Gustafsson has scored 47 goals with 240 points, split between the Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers and Red Wings.

Appleton has missed the past five games with a lower-body injury.

He has three goals and nine points in 26 games.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets have activated captain Boone Jenner off the injured reserve on Thursday.

Forward Luca Del Bel Belluz has been assigned to the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters.

Jenner has missed the past 14 games due to an upper-body injury he suffered against Seattle on Nov. 11.

The 32-year-old has three goals and 10 points in 16 games this season.

Winnipeg Jets

Connor Hellebuyck is back on the ice for a second straight day after a full skate yesterday as he works his way back from knee surgery.

Hellebuyck had a knee procedure done on Nov. 22 and was given a recovery timeline of four to six weeks.

He took shots for the first time at practice yesterday and started skating on Monday.

Hellebuyck has been out since Nov. 15. He is 8-6-0 this season with a .913 save percentage and 2.51 GAA.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Goaltender Dennis Hildeby is in the home net at practice and is the projected starter tonight against the San Jose Sharks.

With Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll on the injured reserve, Hildeby has made back-to-back starts against the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Hildeby has appeared in nine games for Toronto this season, recording a .936 save percentage and 2.15 GAA. He stopped 33 of 34 shots against Montreal on Saturday in a 2-1 shootout loss before shutting out the Lightning on Tuesday night with 29 saves.

Defenceman Chris Tanev is skating in a non-contact sweater as he continues to work his way back from an upper-body injury.

Tanev has not played since being stretchered off the ice on Nov. 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers after taking a hit from Matvei Michkov.

The 35-year-old has two assists in eight games this season while averaging 17:20 of ice time.

Goaltender Joseph Woll was also on the ice for a second straight day after suffering a lower-body injury last Thursday against the Hurricanes.

Woll played the first two periods against Carolina with the Maple Leafs before exiting with the injury and did not return for the third.

In eight appearances, Woll is 4-3-1 with a .923 save percentage and 2.44 GAA.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Goaltender Tristan Jarry is the first goaltender off the ice for the Penguins and is the projected starter tonight against the Montreal Canadiens.

Jarry is 9-2-1 with a .913 save percentage and 2.54 GAA in 13 appearances this season.

New Jersey Devils

Forward Evgenii Dadonov has been placed on the injured reserve with a wrist injury.

Centre Xavier Parent has also been recalled from the AHL’s Utica Comets.

Dadonov, 36, has appeared in just five games this season as he missed 17 games earlier in the season with a hand injury suffered in the season opener against the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 9. He has not played since Nov. 24 against Detroit.

He is on a one-year, $1 million contract he signed with the Devils on July 1.

The Chelyabinsk, Russia native has appeared in 622 career NHL games, scoring 163 goals with 361 points, split between the Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, Vegas Golden Knights, Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars and Devils.

Parent, 24, has six goals and 12 points in 20 games with Utica this season. He has yet to make his NHL debut.

The Devils announced that forward Timo Meier is taking a leave of absence from the team to tend to a family health matter.

“Devils’ forward Timo Meier has taken a personal leave of absence from the team as he tends to a family health matter,” the team said in a statement.

“The entire organization supports Timo and his family and appreciates everyone respecting their privacy at this time.”

Meier, 29, has 11 goals and 23 points in 30 games with the Devils this season.

A first-round pick (ninth overall) by San Jose in 2015, Meier was dealt to New Jersey on Feb. 26, 2023 in a blockbuster trade.

He is in the third season of an eight-year, $70.4 million contract with an AAV of $8.8 million.

The Herisau, Switzerland native has 228 goals and 458 points in 651 career NHL games, split between the Sharks and Devils.
