Somebody showed up to the Flyers game last night wearing a 50/50 Carter Hart jersey, and honestly, that alone might have been the most confusing moment of the entire evening.

A 50/50 Carter Hart Jersey?

Confusing, right?

There is absolutely no chance this was sincere. I refuse to believe there is a single human being walking this earth who feels strongly enough about Carter Hart to voluntarily rep him like that in public, let alone at a hockey game in Philadelphia.

If anything, this felt like a bad troll job or some kind of low-budget psyop to repair a public image that is never getting repaired. I am also fairly confident you could walk into a Dick’s Sporting Goods right now and grab a Carter Hart Flyers jersey off a clearance rack for about $15 dollars, if not less.

Combine that with the fact that I am still not convinced anyone in Las Vegas actually likes hockey, and this whole thing starts to feel like someone trying way too hard to be funny.

That weird moment aside, there was also a strange rumor floating around social media that Emily Kaplan had reported increased security behind the Golden Knights bench for Hart’s return to Philly, along with confirmation that there would be no welcome-back video.

Increase Security for… Carter Hart?

Emily Kaplan reports on ESPN that both teams have agreed to “increased security” behind Carter Hart on the bench. She also confirmed there will not be a welcome back video showed in the stadium.

That story fell apart almost immediately when dozens of Flyers fans posted photos showing nothing out of the ordinary. I could not find a clean source confirming Kaplan ever said it, so chalk that one up to internet nonsense until proven otherwise.

As for the actual hockey game, the Flyers could not pull it out, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Golden Knights at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

It was a frustrating loss in a game where Philadelphia never led but also never went away. Trevor Zegras and Noah Juulsen both scored to erase deficits, and Dan Vladar once again gave the Flyers a chance, stopping 18 of 21 shots.

The turning point came in overtime when Travis Konecny turned the puck over, and Mark Stone buried the winner just eight seconds later.

Rick Tocchet did not sugarcoat it afterward, noting that you simply cannot make those mistakes in that moment. The Flyers dropped to 16-9-4 and are now 2-2-1 on their six-game homestand, with far too many games lately coming down to one play.

The power play continues to be a problem. The Flyers failed to convert with under five minutes left in regulation, and Tocchet was blunt about what is missing. They are not getting shots from the middle of the ice, and until that changes, these close games are going to keep flipping the wrong way.

Despite the loss, there were positives. Christian Dvorak continued his strong season with two assists and is on pace for a career year. Zegras already has 11 goals through 29 games. Juulsen picked up his first goal as a Flyer.

Vladar once again looked like a legitimate NHL starter. Travis Sanheim made a beautiful read to set up Zegras’ goal, and the Flyers competed with a very good Vegas team from start to finish.

Carter Hart, for what it is worth, did return to Philadelphia with Vegas, but he never left the bench. He backed up Akira Schmid and was not a factor on the ice, which made that jersey in the crowd even stranger.

The Flyers wrap up their homestand Saturday night against the Hurricanes. Hopefully, the only thing people are talking about afterward is hockey, and not whatever that Carter Hart jersey was supposed to be.
