San Jose Sharks forward Michael Misa has suffered another injury ahead of his attendance at Team Canada’s World Juniors Training Camp.
Misa, who just returned from an ankle injury that kept him out for over a month, played two games for the San Jose Barracuda on a conditioning loan. Misa scored an assist in the two games before the Sharks opted ot loan him to Team Canada for their training camp.
It is unclear what this injury is, but Hockey Canada has replaced the forward on the training camp roster. The team also did announce that they expect the San Jose Sharks top prospect to rejoin the team during the training camp portion. Chicago Blackhawks first-round pick Marek Vanacker has replaced Misa on the roster.
It is also interesting to note that Misa never made it to Niagara Falls for training camp. Hockey Canada announced that Misa stayed back with the San Jose Sharks to work with team doctors and therapists.
The San Jose Barracuda played on Wednesday against the San Diego Gulls. The ‘Cuda would lose 3-1, and Misa did not dress for the game. Head coach John McCarthy told reporters following Misa’s second game that he was unsure whether the center would play, but did not give a reason for his uncertainty.
Althought the injury to the San Jose Sharks 18-year-old phenome isn’t good news considering what he just endured, the fact it doesn’t appear to be serious is certaintly a positive sign.
The World Juniors begin on Dec. 26 and Misa appears to be on track to play.
