The San Jose Sharks have many promising prospects in their system. Among them is Luca Cagnoni, as the 21-year-old defenseman is viewed as having plenty of potential.Â
Cagnoni completed his first AHL season with the San Jose Barracuda and certainly impressed. In 64 games with the AHL club this past season, the 5-foot-9 defenseman posted 16 goals, 36 assists, and 52 points. With this, the 2023 fourth-round pick undoubtedly showed that he is capable of providing solid offense from the point.Â
Now, Cagnoni is only continuing to impress with the Barracuda this season and is easily one of the Barracuda’s top players right now.Â
Cagnoni has played in 22 games so far this season with the Barracuda, where he has posted five goals, 12 assists, 17 points, and a plus-4 rating. With this, he is currently tied for fifth on the Barracuda in goals and tied for third in points.Â
Cagnoni is showing no signs of slowing down, either, as he has recorded nine points over his last 10 games for the Barracuda.
With all of this, it is hard not to feel optimistic about Cagnoni’s future in San Jose. We will now need to wait and see how he builds on his strong start to the season from here.Â
Cagnoni has posted two assists in six career NHL games for the Sharks, which all were during this past season.Â
