Gabriel Vilardi has carried an otherwise disappointing offense over the past few weeks. Over his past 11 games, the Winnipeg Jets forward has found the back of the net eight times.
No other player on the team has scored more than five goals over that stretch.
One of those games included a two-goal performance from Vilardi. His opponent that night? The Washington Capitals.
One of Vilardi’s goals came on the power play, which has been an issue for Washington this season. Entering this matchup, the Capitals rank 19th in penalty minutes taken per game and 27th in penalty kill percentage.
Vilardi’s other goal came at even strength. At 5-on-5 this year, Washington ranks 21st in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).
That just leaves goaltender Charlie Lindgren, who is projected to start for the Capitals and is the biggest obstacle in Vilardi finding the back of the net.
That said, Lindgren was also in the net for that two-goal performance a few weeks ago.
Capitals vs Jets same-game parlay
Vilardi’s scoring increases the likelihood of Winnipeg winning, and it also increases the probability that Kyle Connor records at least one assist. Connor skates alongside Vilardi on the first power play unit and assisted on each of his two goals against Washington.
In fact, Connor has assisted on six of Vilardi’s past eight goals.
