The Golden Knights have clawed their way back towards the top of the Pacific Division with a strong road trip. With a 3-0-1 record so far and victories in five of their last six contests, the Golden Knights are tied with the Anaheim Ducks for the division lead heading into today’s slate of games. Closing out what has been a tremendous road trip and coming back to Vegas with nine out of a possible ten points would go a long way towards reaffirming the Golden Knights as part of the NHL’s elite.
Here is how the Golden Knights can keep their dominance on the road assured.
While the record on the road trip looks good, the Golden Knights have had to work for the majority of the points they have gotten.
In their last three games (and five of their last seven), the Golden Knights have needed to go beyond regulation to find a winner in their games. Fortunately, they appear to have found a winning combination lately, coming away with two points in three of their last four overtime/shootout sessions. The fans may appreciate the extra hockey, but the Golden Knights might want to save some tread on their tires, so expect them to push to finish the Blue Jackets within 60 minutes.
Mark Stone continues to prove why he remains among the NHL’s elite two-way players.
Along with remaining one of the best defensive-minded forwards in the league, Stone has been a surprising offensive dynamo this season, putting up a point in every game he has played so far (24 points in 14 games). This includes the last game against the Philadelphia Flyers, when Stone potted two of his team’s three goals, including the overtime winner off a beautiful feed from Jack Eichel. The Golden Knights captain has made a positive impression throughout the season, and the team will lean on him heavily as he continues his excellent stretch of play.
One thing the Golden Knights have to do to keep their winning ways going is to win the games they are supposed to.
The Blue Jackets have struggled lately, losing their last three games to fall to the basement of the Metropolitan Division. However, Columbus features a group of feisty forwards and a defense led by a legitimate Norris Trophy contender in Zach Werenski. The Golden Knights cannot afford to take their eye off the ball for a moment, so they will need to keep in front of their opponents at all times.
