After their blockbuster trade sending Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, the Vancouver Canucks had to make room on the roster for their new additions. Vancouver had been shopping their recently acquired forward Lukas Reichel, but could not find a suitor.
So, in need of an open roster spot, Vancouver waived the 23-year-old Reichel.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Lukas Reichel has been placed on waivers and designated non-roster waiver status.

It was not too long ago that the Canucks acquired Reichel from the Chicago Blackhawks. They traded a 2027 4th-round draft pick for the young player.
He started out strong with the Blackhawks this season, scoring two goals and four points in his first five games of the season. Granted, the bulk of that came in a three-point night with two goals against the St. Louis Blues.
Since being traded, Reichel has struggled mightily, tallying just one assist with the Canucks since being acquired.

The former promising prospect could not fit in in Chicago. He has once again become the odd man out, this time in Vancouver.
Reichel being placed on waivers creates an interesting option for the Flyers.
Philadelphia’s fourth line has had its fair share of struggles this season. For the longest time, it seemed like they could not generate offense – until the recent play of Carl Grundstrom.
Even head coach Rick Tocchet knows his fourth line could use a spark. Reichel would not bring much as far as defensive play or penalty killing. However, he could bring an offensive spark to a team that is looking for that from the bottom of the lineup.
Reichel can play the wing or down the middle, which could be beneficial to the Flyers.
The German forward has had success at the international level. Reichel has dominated the AHL and shown early signs of success in the NHL, but has not been able to put it all together. In 121 AHL games, Reichel has 42 goals and 74 assists for 116 points. In the NHL, he has just 22 goals and 59 points in 188 games.
A second fresh start could be what Reichel needs.
Any chance you get to claim a 23-year-old with over 180 games of NHL experience, you should take it.
Still being so young, the forward has plenty of speed, great hands, playmaking, and a good shot. It could be worth the risk.
Would you make a claim for Lukas Reichel?
