The Providence Bruins faced the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight, concluding their Pennsylvania road trip. Each team has beaten the other this season, with the road team winning the previous games. Providence beat Hershey on Wednesday, and last night outscored them 7-2. The Penguins entered tonight on a three-game winning streak, averaging 4.3 goals per game while allowing one goal per game. Michael DiPietro got the start in net for the Bruins, bringing in a 10-4- 0 record, a 2.00 goals-against average, and a .930 save percentage. Joel Blomqvist got the start for the Penguins; he brought in a 4-1-0 record, posting a 1.93 goals-against average, a .930 save percentage, and a shutout.

Providence Bruins vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins

First Period 

Neither team found the back of the net in the first 20. The Penguins dominated the period, outshooting the Bruins 20-9. DiPietro left after 12:30 minutes, with Simon Zajicek replacing him in the net.

Second Period 

The Penguins got the scoring started in the middle period. Avery Hayes scored the goal, recording his eighth of the year. Providence got on the board with under five minutes left as Riley Tufte scored his tenth of the year. His goal came on the power play. The Penguins once again outshot the Bruins 16-9.

Third Period 

In the final period, neither team would score, forcing the game to overtime. It would be another one-score game between the two. The Penguins outshot the Bruins 13-8 in the period.

Overtime

Each team had a shot on goal. The Penguins capitalized on their shot on a goal as Valtteri Puustinen scored the game-winner. It was his fifth goal of the year.

Wrap Up

DiPietro stopped all 14 shots he faced before leaving. Zajicek stopped 34 of the 36. Blomqvist stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced to secure the one star of the game. Puustinen was the second star. Zajicek took home the third star of the game in his relief appearance.

Next Up

Providence returns home next Saturday as they face the Syracuse Crunch, with puck drop set for 7:05 PM EST. The Penguins face the Charlotte Checkers tomorrow at home, with puck drop set for 3:05 PM EST.
