John Klingberg and Macklin Celebrini created one of the most iconic comebacks in San Jose Sharks history as they defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-5 in overtime.

Klingberg scored his second goal of the game after making a beautiful move by a defender and then found Celerbini, who passed it right back for the easy one-timer.

The Sharks were down 5-1 with 14:35 left in the game before they scored four unanswered goals to tie the game. Goals came from Klingberg, Eklund, Toffoli, and Celebrini. Goals three through five were scored in 4:03 of gametime.

Toffoli scored twice and had two assists. Alexander Wennberg had three assists, and Celebrini finished with three points (1G-2A). Yaroslav Askarov returned to the net and was peppered all night but made enough saves, 38, to win the game. Will Smith and Philipp Kurashev left the game with injuries.

The Penguins got goals from Bryan Rust, Sidney Crosby, Anthony Mantha, Rutgar McGroarty, and Kevin Hayes. Arturs Silovs made 26 saves.

This was sloppy. The San Jose Sharks were outshot 20-6 in the second period, and all seemed lost. But Klingberg’s goal to extend his point streak to four games was the start of the biggest comeback in team history. The last team to achieve the feat of coming down four goals in the third was the Florida Panthers on April 2, 2022.

Toffoli put the Sharks up 1-0 at 10:27 of the first period. After a clean face-off win, Sam Dickinson fed Toffoli at the point, and his long-range wrist shot beat Silovs over the blocker.

Crosby tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal at 12:41. The Penguins’ star was able to find a loose puck in front and fire it by Askarov.

McGroarty put the Penguis up 19 seconds into the second period. After making an inside-out move on Nick Leddy, McGroatry’s shot beat Askarov up high.

Hayes made it 3-1 at 9:42. After a face-off loss, the Penguins eventually got the puck in the slot, and Noel Acciari found Hayes at the side of the net for a tap-in.

Rust added to the lead to make it 4-1 with 6.6 seconds left. The Sharks were on another penalty kill, and Rust finished a scramble with a one-timer.

Mantha made it 5-1 with a power play goal at 5:25 of the third period.

The Sharks began their comeback with a goal from Klingberg at 7:33 on the power play.

Eklund got the Sharks within two with his first goal in a long time at 14:19.

Celebrini fired a bomb of a shot with 2:27 left in the third to make it 5-4.

Toffoli tied the game 5-5 with a rebound in front at 18:22 of the third.
