With the Toronto Maple Leafs heading into a do-or-die game against the Florida Panthers, an unexpected supporter has emerged for the team.
As it turns out, he has a surprising name rooting for him and the team as a whole.
“Nine years coaching the Leafs and the Marlies, and my kids are huge fans. And we’re watching the games, and I feel myself invested in what’s happening and want to see them do well. I have nothing but love and care for so many people in that organization, both as players and staff members. So I want to see them do great.”
Keefe’s firing was in part due to his inability to get the Maple Leafs over the post season hump and into a long playoff run. He praised Berube for the work he’s done in Toronto since was he was let go.
“I know how much it means for the community, for the city, for the fans. And I wasn’t able to help the team get to where they need to get to, but they’re in a tremendous place right now and playing great hockey.”
Keefe said the biggest difference between Toronto and New Jersey is being able to walk around without being recognized so often, something that may serve as an enticement for Marner if he’s looking to get out of the media frenzy that follows the Maple Leafs.
