Crop comments: The Gilmour express continues to charge through these cold winter nights, going 4-0 to capture the Cornfield Cup in its annual trip to Culver, Ind., for that. That’s a big notch in the proverbial belt for the Lancers. … University did nicely to shake off a 4-0 loss to Toledo St. Francis with a 6-1 rout of Toledo St. John’s, both in Greater Ohio Hockey League action. … Mentor showed a lot of fortitude at the Thornton Park tournament. After getting routed by Walsh Jesuit, the Cardinals responded with consolation-bracket wins over Bowling Green (6-2) and Hudson (4-3). … Benedictine lost twice at Thornton to BG and Hudson but obviously is in no peril as far as No. 4 here. … No way around it: Kenston is in a rough patch, having lost nine of 10. A solid performance Dec. 18 on the road against Kent Roosevelt would be helpful in a few ways.
