Samuel Montembeault and Jakub Dobes

We witnessed a striking scene last night at the Bell Centre, following the Montreal Canadiens’ victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

It’s easy to forget, but it must be incredibly difficult, mentally and emotionally, for Samuel Montembeault.

In just a few months, he went from being the unquestioned number-one goaltender of the Montreal Canadiens and a goalie almost guaranteed to represent Canada at the Olympic Games.

Samuel Montembeault once again impresses with his attitude

Despite the adversity and everything he’s gone through, Montembeault keeps a smile on his face and genuinely seems happy for his teammates.

Yes, that absolutely deserves to be highlighted!

“Samuel Montembeault showed pure class after the win, taking a moment to give Jakub Dobes his flowers following his strong performance against the Oilers. In a tough personal situation, Montembeault still made it about the team – a small gesture that said a lot.” – HF

Look at how happy Samuel is for Dobes after an outstanding performance.

I guarantee you that the majority of National Hockey League goaltenders who were in the process of losing their job would absolutely, but absolutely not, have the same reaction as Montembeault does here.

Montembeault, 29 years old, has a record of 5-6-1 this season, with a goals-against average of 3.65 and a save percentage of .857.

Fowler, 21 years old, has a record of 1-0-1 this season, with a goals-against average of 3.42 and a save percentage of .894.

The Canadiens are back in action Tuesday night at the Bell Centre against the Philadelphia Flyers, where all eyes will be on Martin St-Louis’ decision in goal.
