The Detroit Red Wings are coming off a 4-1-1 road trip in which they averaged 3.7 goals per game while allowing 2.7 goals per game. This afternoon it was announced that they have placed forward Jonatan Berggren on waivers. This will enable Berggren to hopefully find a new team to join. The Red Wings have been trying to move Berggren since last season but haven’t been able to make a deal come together. They gave Berggren another chance this season but things just haven’t worked out. He’s playing in only 15 of Detroit’s 33 games this season. He has six points in two goals and four assists. He’s a minus-three with a power-play goal.

Jonatan Berggren

The Red Wings drafted Berggren 33rd overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The 25-year-old has played in 169 games over four seasons with Detroit. He has 64 points on 31 goals and 33 assists. He’s a -31 with nine power-play goals and a game-winning goal. His best season was his rookie season in which he recorded 28 points in 67 games on 15 goals and 13 assists. He even saw top-line minutes in that season but since that season his play has warranted a spot in the lineup and now the two will likely split.
