HomeNHLDetroit Red Wings Recall Forward; Patrick Kane to Miss Two Games

The Detroit Red Wings return home on Tuesday after a six-game road trip. They went 4-1-1 during the trip, averaging 3.7 goals per game while allowing 2.7. The Red Wings last night reassigned defenseman Erik Gustsffson to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. They then recalled forward John Leonard from the Griffins. The recall of Leonard comes as Patrick Kane will miss the next two games with an upper-body injury that occurred in Saturday’s 4-0 win over the Blackhawks according to Todd McLellan. McLellan said Leonard will slide into Kane’s spot with Copp and Compher. Leonard is the AHL’s leading goalscorer with 19 goals. In 20 games he has 19 goals and ten assists. He is a +14 with two power-play goals and two shorthanded goals. The Griffins picked up their 22nd win of the season last night behind his shootout-winning goal. Leonard was signed as a free agent over the offseason by the Red Wings.
