Red Wings vs. Islanders to air on WILX 10.2 MeTV Lansing on Dec. 16.(WILX)
After a run of 25 consecutive playoff appearances, it’s now been nine seasons since the Red Wings last made the postseason. But Detroit is eyeing a return this season, sitting near the top of the Atlantic Division — tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning at 39 points — as we approach the season’s halfway mark.
The likes of Alex DeBrincat (team high 37 points), Dylan Larkin (17 goals) and Patrick Kane (23 points) have the Wings looking like a playoff-caliber team once again.
Tuesday’s test on MeTV will be a tough one, as the Islanders (41 points) are in second place in the Metropolitan Division. New York has already beaten Detroit twice this season — a 7-2 blowout in October and a 5-0 shutout last month.
