Rapid-fire Pittsburgh Penguins one-timers Monday included some Penguins trade chatter and also some clarity and context on defenseman Kris Letang. And the team will have their newbies available Tuesday when they host the Edmonton Oilers…and Tristan Jarry.

Elsewhere in the Daily, it seems the New Jersey Devils have tried to make a couple of trades, but their targets said no thanks and exercised no-trade clauses. There are conflicting reports on the Kings’ interest in trading for Philip Danault. The Buffalo Sabres made the big change at the top of the organization pink pink-slipping Kevyn Adams. And the Rangers responded to a tense day and homecomings with a big win.

It has been a while since I outsmarted the crowd. I spent an hour plus at the mall Monday, but I went at 7 p.m. I basically had the place to myself. It was pretty awesome. But is it possible to go to the mall without getting Chinese food? One sample and I’m in.

Got home for most of the Steelers game. Zoned out by the end of the third quarter, and here we are. Let’s do the hockey…

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The team returned Sergei Murashov to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, but after a couple of games of waiting for the new guys, Brett Kulak and Stuart Skinner will arrive Monday.

For the consternation and hand-wringing and vitriol toward Penguins defenseman Kris Letang, it seems the coaches are also noticing his struggle and doing something about it. From some trade chatter to one way for the team to get out of their heads. Here’s the rapid-fire Penguins one-timers.

Steelers Now: Well, that was surprisingly easy. The Dolphins weren’t much of a test on any level for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: The Pirates are trying. But they’re finding out what everyone else knew. Their reputation is mud. Is it possible to turn around the Pittsburgh Pirates?

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

ESPN: That’s it. Enough with Kevyn Adams. Five years, no improvement. Jarmo Kekalainen, the former GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets, is next in line and takes over on a permanent basis. Sabres owner Terry Pegula didn’t mince words, either.

NHLtraderumors.me: Dave Littman did the listening to the 32 Thoughts podcast with Elliotte Friedman and pulled out this nugget–the New Jersey Devils have tried to make a couple of trades, but it is believed that two trades were scuttled by players who rejected going to New Jersey.

New Jersey Hockey Now: In light of Friedman’s report, our James Nichols–who has become a hell of a reporter in New Jersey, by the way–writes about more of GM Tom Fitzgerald’s attempts to improve the team. It’s tough as Fitzgerald is shopping a pair of bad Devils contracts.

Sometimes GMs are told to do things by ownership and sign players they don’t believe will fit. This is the result. Infer what you will from that sentence.

Sportsnet: The kitchen is getting warm in Toronto. It’s not been a good first half of the season and there’s some real heat on Auston Matthews, who is not have a Matthews-type season.

TVA: Jonathan Bernier (not the goalie) reports that Philip Danault–contrary to recent reports–is somewhat available on the trade market, and his preference is to land with the Montreal Canadiens.

Forever Blueshirts: The New York Rangers won the game, but it was the homecoming for both Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider. Neither knew quite what to expect, but the Garden crowd delivered one heck of a standing ovation. Both players were a little taken aback but quite honored by the Rangers fans.

To show his love, Trouba elbowed the first 7500 fans on their way out the door.

I kid, I kid.

Sportsnet: I love this story–it’s the Dad’s Trip for the Calgary Flames and their goalies come from warm weather spots where ice rinks were scarce, but their desire to play was high. In the California sunshine, both dads built some wild backyard rinks.

Chicago Hockey Now: Uh oh. The Chicago Blackhawks were pretty good this season. And the Team Canada roster decisions are looming, but it appears Connor Bedard will be out for a month, at least. He will be re-evaluated in January. The full Blackhawks news isn’t great.
