It’s a really good time to be a sports fan in the state of Michigan, as for the first time in a long time, all four major sports in Detroit have good or competing teams. The Detroit Tigers have really stepped up their game; the Detroit Lions still have a great organization, but are just a little banged up.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t playoff contenders by any means, but it will be a tough battle to get into the playoffs this year.

The Detroit Red Wings are sitting on top of the Atlantic Division and are currently tied second in the Eastern Conference. This is an impressive bounce back, considering Steve Yzerman was starting to get a lot of criticism for the Red Wings’ lack of competitiveness and ability to win big games.

But even on Tuesday, December 16, they played the New York Islanders, who were technically two points better than them, and were able to win late in the game. Then you have the Detroit Pistons, who are currently on a four-game winning streak and have the second-best record in the entire league, and they’re sitting on top of the Eastern Conference.

With all the success that’s happening in Detroit sports, one can ask:

Who will be the next Detroit team to win a championship?

I’ve talked lots of times about how I’m a big fan of hockey, I like football and baseball, but basketball just isn’t what it used to be for me as a kid.

But with everything the Pistons are doing right now, I truly feel that the Detroit Pistons will be the next major sports team to win a championship.

The ferocity with which their defense plays is very reminiscent of the bad boys era. Maybe not in terms of how much physical damage they did, but the aggressiveness of shutting down the opposing team’s offense.

If the Detroit Pistons make it to the finals this year, they will most likely be going up against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the defending champs who are sitting on top of the entire league and the Western Conference.

The Detroit Red Wings are a very promising and good team; they just need a little bit more depth in their defense.

I definitely feel that within the next five years, the Detroit Lions will be Super Bowl champions, as long as they can stay healthy.

The Detroit Tigers have shown us that we can have some faith in them, making it to the postseason.

Overall, we are eating well in Michigan, but I honestly feel like the Detroit Pistons are going to win the NBA championship this year, and will be the next major Detroit team to win a major title.

Every Sweater Number in Detroit Red Wings History Worn Just Once (Or Not At All)

For whatever reason, these numbers have either been worn just once or never at all in the nearly 100-year history of Detroit Red Wings hockey, according to Hockey Reference.

(Hockey Reference suggests that No. 6 was only worn by Cummy Burton, which is incorrect as Larry Aurie wore the number first and the number is pseudo-retired. Such inaccuracies are difficult to narrow down, so where they can be corrected they will be.)
