The Calgary Flames are starting to receive even more interest in Rasmus Andersson as the March 6 trade deadline inches closer.

Andersson, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, has been subjected to trade rumours dating all the way back to last year’s deadline. He and the Flames are reported to still be far apart on extension talks, suggesting it’s only a matter of time until he’s moved.

One team that has been linked to Andersson for some time is the Dallas Stars, though many others are starting to surface. The growing interest appears to be related to the fact that Quinn Hughes was traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the Minnesota Wild last week.

“What I am hearing is that the Calgary Flames suddenly got more calls on Rasmus Andersson after the Quinn Hughes trade,” TSN’s Pierre LeBrun said on a segment of Insider Trading.

What makes things all the more interesting is that it isn’t just Western Conference teams who have expressed grown interest in Andersson. In fact, former Flames GM Brad Treliving, who now serves as the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, is believed to have reached out regarding the 29-year-old.

“Among the teams that have circled back on Rasmus Andersson is the Toronto Maple Leafs,” LeBrun continued. “We know the Leafs tried to trade for Andersson last year at the deadline.”

Though Andersson has no trade-protection in his current deal, LeBrun went on to mention that he has heard the right-shot defenceman would be willing to sign a long-term contract with the Leafs. This would be great for the Flames, as a sign-and-trade would land them significantly more as far as a return is concerned.

After a disappointing 2024-25, Andersson has bounced back in a big way this season. His 24:07 minutes per game are first among all Flames skaters and 17th in the entire NHL. Meanwhile, his 22 points are the second most of his teammates, trailing only Nazem Kadri’s 29.
