The Edmonton Oilers (15-12-6) face the Pittsburgh Penguins (14-8-9) Tuesday. Puck drop from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (TNT/TruTV). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Oilers vs. Penguins odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

2024-25 series record: Tied 1-1

The Oilers fell 4-1 at the Montreal Canadiens on the tail end of a back-to-back Sunday. They were -134 favorites. LW Zach Hyman had the lone tally for his seventh goal of the season.

These teams swapped goalies last week as the Pens sent G Tristan Jarry to Edmonton for G Stuart Skinner. Both goalies are slated to face their former teams for the first time Tuesday.

The Pens have lost 5 straight as they navigate without C Evgeni Malkin (lower body). They lost 4 straight at home with the latest being a 5-4 OT loss to the Utah Mammoth on a back-to-back Sunday. RW Justin Brazeau had 2 goals to give him 8 on the season.

Oilers at Penguins picks and predictionsPrediction

Oilers 5, Penguins 3

I could get behind a Skinner revenge game for Pittsburgh, but the Pens are just too short-handed without “Geno” Malkin. So, we’re siding with Edmonton, but I actually prefer the puck line. I would be in for a GIFT (Goal in First 10 Minutes), but it’s priced at -175.

Instead, head over to Game Props and take FIRST TEAM TO REACH 3 GOALS (REGULAR TIME) OILERS -105. BetMGM has a 10% NHL Boost that brings this to +104.

Take the OILERS -1.5 (+165). You could opt to use the aforementioned boost here to bring it to +181. Edmonton has 6 wins in its last 10, and all of them have been by 2+ goals.

The Pens are 6-2-2 O/U in their last 10, and the Oilers are 6-4. The Over is also 6-4 in the last 10 head-to-heads. I don’t like taking Over 6.5’s, but it makes sense here.

Go OVER 6.5 (-110).
