The St. Louis Blues continue to assess their roster as the season progresses, using on-ice results to guide measured decisions rather than quick reactions. Management has remained focused on maintaining balance while tracking the team’s proper standing.

That consistent approach has opened the door to internal evaluations of veteran players who still carry terms on their contracts. Jordan Binnington fits into that conversation as part of the broader picture.

Jordan Binnington Trade Talks Take Shape in St. Louis

Binnington remains the Blues’ primary goaltender and continues to handle a heavy workload. He is a franchise leader at the position and still plays a central role in the team’s structure. At the same time, his age and contract have placed him among players the organization is willing to evaluate if the situation calls for it.

Doug Armstrong, the Blues’ president of hockey operations, said he would be open to conversations if they become necessary, while noting the importance of transparency with veteran players who hold no-trade protection. “I’ve done that in the past,” Armstrong said, via The Athletic, adding that shared understanding matters when those talks take place.

When explicitly asked about Binnington, Armstrong described the situation in practical terms. He said that if Binnington is playing well and the team is not in the right place competitively, conversations could happen. “That’s part of the business,” Armstrong said.
And when it comes to the asking price, Armstrong is open to anything.

“To move anyone that could bring you a first-round pick, that’s likely to a team that has playoff aspirations, and that’s a pick (Nos.) 18 to 31,” Armstrong said. “… we have to be open to anything, meaning if it is the picks, then we’ll take that pick and do something with it at the draft. Our goal would be, if we acquire things, they have a name attached to them now, not a (draft pick) number.”

On the ice, Binnington has posted a 7-8-5 record through 21 appearances this season. He carries a 3.49 goals-against average and a .869 save percentage, numbers that reflect an inconsistent team environment. In games the Blues win, his play has been stronger, showing he can still manage games when support is there.

Binnington is expected to start Thursday night against the New York Rangers. The game is set for 8:00 p.m. ET, with St. Louis entering at 13-15-7 and New York holding a 16-15-4 record. It will mark another standard test in a season where evaluation continues on multiple levels.

For now, the Blues are not signaling an immediate move. Any asking price tied to Binnington reflects his role, contract status, and experience. The focus remains on monitoring progress and keeping options open rather than forcing change.
