OWATONNA — Landen Stuges scored 47 seconds into Thursday’s Big Nine Conference boys hockey game at Four Seasons Centre.
That was the only time the puck crossed the goal line all night.
Owatonna goalie Brekxton Nelson and Mayo’s Colton Brandt were the stars of the show, as Owatonna held off the Spartans for 1-0 victory.
Brandt made 21 saves in defeat for Mayo, which is now 2-2-0 in the Big Nine and 3-5-0 overall. Three of the Spartans five losses have come by one goal.
Owatonna improves to 4-1-0 and 4-4-0.
Mayo is off until Dec. 29-30, when it plays at the West Fargo (N.D.) Winter Classic.

Dodge County 7, Albert Lea 1
KASSON — Dodge County’s top line struck on the first shift of the game, just 52 seconds in, and the Wildcats pulled away from there for a 7-1 non-conference boys hockey victory against Albert Lea in a key midseason matchup of Section 1, Class 1A rivals.
Camryn Koch scored early in the first period, then Peter LaRock scored the game-winning goal 7:32 into the game, for a 2-0 Wildcats lead, then Jaxon Burgess scored his first varsity goal at the 13:50 mark of the opening period to give Dodge County at 3-0 lead after one.
The Wildcats added three more goals in the second — from Dylan Allen, Evan Hain and Gabe Coshenet — to double their lead to 6-0 after two.
Dodge County’s Nolan Steele and Albert Lea’s Sam McGill traded third-period goals.
Coshenet had a three-point game (one goal, two assists), while Koch, Steele and Allen all scored one goal and assisted on another.
Dodge County (5-2-0 overall), which received votes in this week’s Class 1A state poll, plays at No. 17-ranked Luverne at 3 p.m. Saturday.
