Maple Leafs winger Matthew Knies was injured during Game 6 against the Florida Panthers, and the latest update on his condition has created a whole lot of concern.
The Maple Leafs have evened their series against the Panthers at 3 games apiece to set up a final and deciding Game 7 on Sunday night, but the win came at a cost.
Following the win, Craig Berube told the media that Knies may or may not be in the lineup for Game 7. Unfortunately, Berube hadn’t yet had the opportunity to even see Knies since the injury, revealing the following:
“I haven’t seen him today so, I mean, I don’t have an update for you right now. I will today, though, at some point, for sure. How he’s doing & how we’ve got to proceed going forward here with him.”
Berube also expressed just how important Knies is to the team, labeling him an all-situations player who can impact the game in a number of ways.
“He touches every part of the game, that’s for sure, and scored some big goals for us. He’s been a very good player in the playoffs here throughout the season. Putting in big goals for us around the net, being that net-front presence, being physical, penalty killing. He’s a very important piece.”
If Knies cannot go for Game 7, look for Nick Robertson to suit up again, as he did in a very forgettable Game 5. Robertson scored the only goal during a 6-1 loss on Wednesday.
