SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — The Mammoth fell to the Devils 2-1 at home.
The night started with a milestone. Daniil But scored his first NHL goal on a power play in the first period.
The Mammoth dominated shots on goal in the second period 18-6. However, they couldn’t capitalize.
Utah took five penalties. Penalty kills have been a strength (Mammoth went 4-for-5 against New Jersey), but it’s hard to stay perfect. The Devils scored on their fifth power play to take the lead for good.
There were some bright spots. In addition to But’s NHL scoring debut, Alex Kerfoot played his first game of the season. He missed most of training camp and the season with a core muscle injury. Kerfoot played on the fourth line, replacing Kailer Yamamoto.
Up next, Utah hosts the Jets on Sunday.
