There’s always a handshake line at the end of a series in the NHL playoffs. The one between the Dallas Stars and the Winnipeg Jets after Game 6 Saturday was different.

This time around there was a notable emphasis on Jets forward Mark Scheifele. The 32-year-old Canadian played Saturday just hours after he learned that his father had died unexpectedly.

Prior to the game, Stars fans rallied to support the Jets’ star through donations to Canadian charities in honor of his late father.

Scheifele scored in the second period to give Winnipeg the lead, but watched Thomas Harley’s overtime game-winner from the penalty box after he tripped Stars forward Sam Steel in the final seconds of regulation.

Scheifele came out of the box shortly after and shared an emotional embrace with several of his teammates before meeting the Dallas Stars at center ice for an extended handshake line.
