Anthony Stolarz is still sidelined for the Maple Leafs, but on Saturday, Craig Berube revealed some life-changing news for the injured goaltender during layoff.
It’s been a tough season for Anthony Stolarz, who has been sidelined since November 11th against the Boston Bruins with a mysterious upper-body injury.
The Maple Leafs have largely been very quiet on what’s ailing Stolarz and the updates have been few and far between during his time away from the team. However, we do know that his issue is not related to a concussion.
Life-changing event for Anthony Stolarz amid layoff from Leafs
Craig Berube spoke with the media on Saturday in Nashville ahead of the team’s meeting with the Predators, revealing that Stolarz is expected to meet with a specialist soon. He also revealed some life-changing information on the 31-year-old.
Berube told reporters on Saturday that Stolarz and his partner just welcomed their new baby into the world this week.
The absence from the team must have been weighing heavy on Stolarz, so to have such a blessing enter his life during one of the most challenging periods of his season must be a fantastic distraction.
Stolarz has struggled mightily this season, posting a very uncharacteristic 3.51 GAA and .884 SV% through 13 appearances. These numbers are vastly worst than his career numbers (2.63 GAA and .915 SV% with 12 shutouts over 155 games), so it’s a pretty good bet that once healthy, Stolarz will rebound nicely.
With Stolarz scheduled to meet a specialist, we should have an update on his status within the next week or two. In the meantime, congratulations to Stolarz and his partner on their new bundle of joy.
