Zeev Buium, arguably the best acquisition for the Vancouver Canucks from the Minnesota Wild in the Quinn Hughes trade, is eligible for extension at the end of this season, and with the salary cap rising significantly soon, the Canucks should extend him the first chance they get.
“A part of this deal was getting a young stud defenseman, and they really did get one in the Minnesota Wild’s #12 overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.”-Jaxon
Zeev Buium needs to be signed as soon as possible for the Vancouver Canucks.
Canucks Army posted on X the urgency the Canucks need to have this summer with Buium, they can sign him to a max of eight years, and they should push to make that happen, because in a few years the market is going to look very different with the higher cap.
Zeev Buium is extension-eligible this July, meaning the Canucks can extend him for up to eight years. Should they do whatever it takes to lock up their young D-man now before the CBA contract limits change and the cap rises?

Buium was impressive in his debut, scoring a goal and an assist, and he immediately captivated the fans with his play. Buium was a standout at the University of Denver recording 98 points in 83 games, through two years at the University. The Wild drafted him 12th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, and while his NHL career has gotten off to a slower start, it’s important to note he is only 20 years old.
The young defensemen will have a promising career no doubt, and the Canucks need to take advantage of the timing of his extension. They might end up having one of the best contracts in the NHL.
