Seattle Kraken fans are upset after the team traded Mason Marchment to the Columbus Blue Jackets, a move many felt sent the wrong message.

The Kraken received a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in 2026.

Marchment’s short run in Seattle was average but useful. He scored 13 points in 29 games, adding size and edge to the middle six. His physical play stood out, even as discipline issues caused problems. While his plus-minus rating of minus-4 raised eyebrows, it mirrored team-wide struggles more than his own effort.

Seattle confirmed the deal on X, writing,

“🚨 TRADE ALERT 🚨 The #SeaKraken have acquired a 2nd round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft & a 4th round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft from Columbus in exchange for forward Mason Marchment.”

However, the response was swift and angry from a frustrated fan base.

“This team has already been so boring to watch, you got rid of the most entertaining person on the team???” one fan reacted.

“So, how in the hell is this going to help NOW???? All this management team does is trade for picks. WHERE’S THE SCORER??????” another demanded answers, asking how trading for future picks helps the team right now.

“I know he wasn’t with the team for long, but I am going to miss his shenanigans. 🤣,” another fan mentioned.

“Sad to see him go, but at this point the kraken aren’t making the playoffs without some changes,” a fan said.

“We might as well just trade everybody and get as much picks as possible,” another fan critiqued the team’s decision.

“Brutal trade lmao. He’s literally the only one that made games worth watching lol,” one fan wrote.

These reactions reflect the growing tension between management and supporters who want offense, not patience.

Seattle’s season has been defined by inconsistency. The Kraken sit at 12-14-6, eighth in the Pacific Division, and average just 2.47 goals per game. Defensive lapses and a league-worst 68.5% penalty kill have erased solid five-on-five play. Scoring depth remains thin behind Jordan Eberle and Vince Dunn.

In Columbus, Marchment gets a reset and Columbus a gritty forward. With Marchment set for a middle-six role and power-play time, the trade may benefit Columbus now, even if it leaves Seattle fans furious.

Seattle visits the San Jose Sharks at 10 p.m. ET Saturday.
