Anaheim Ducks forward Frank Vatrano was fined $5,000 by the NHL for unsportsmanlike conduct for ‍his actions against Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars in a game Friday night.

The fine, which was handed down Saturday, is the ‌maximum allowable under the ‌league’s collective bargaining agreement.

Vatrano was penalized in the wallet after a sequence in the third period of the Stars’ 8-3 victory over the Ducks in Anaheim, Calif.

Vying for ‍a hat trick, Robertson skated in on a partial breakaway while being backchecked by ‍Vatrano. The Stars forward was unable to convert, and the two exchanged slashes as they skated up the ice before ‍Vatrano tackled Robertson from behind.

Vatrano was assessed 16 minutes in penalties on the ‍play, including ‍10 for misconduct.

Robertson was handed a two-minute slashing penalty following the sequence. The ‌26-year-old finished with two goals and an assist on Friday.

Vatrano, 31, has totaled five points (three goals, two assists) in 35 games this season.
