The Vancouver Canucks’ asking price for pending unrestricted free agent forward Kiefer Sherwood has reportedly gone down in recent weeks.

With the Vancouver Canucks trading away captain Quinn Hughes last week, the next task at hand for Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford will to begin selling off their pending unrestricted free agents, a decision that the club made, and informed other teams around the National Hockey League about, in late Novemer.

“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Elliotte Friedman said.

One player to keep an eye on in the coming weeks is forward Kiefer Sherwood, who has struggled after a strong start to the season, but after recording a hat trick in Friday’s win over the New York Islanders, interest is expected to ramp up again very soon.

Vancouver Canucks’ asking price for pending UFA Kiefer Sherwood has reportedly dropped

Despite Friday’s hat trick on Long Island, teams have been hesitant recently when it comes to Kiefer Sherwood, especially with the Vancouver Canucks’ asking price for the forward being a first round pick, as well as another asset, potentially a roster player instead of a prospect.

“The Canucks have shopped him around the league and originally wanted a good, young prospect. According to league sources, the Wild offered one (it’s unclear who) and the Canucks have since changed gears. Reportedly, they now want a good roster player and have also asked teams for a first-round pick.” Joe Smith and Michael Russo of The Athletic said.

“Originally, the Canucks were asking for a first-rounder and a prospect, but unfortunately Sherwood’s production has gone down, and now the price has too.” A source told Murphy.

After that hot start Kiefer Sherwood had, with nine goals in 12 games during the month of October, it was inevitable that his production was going to come down to Earth at some point, which it did in the second half of November.

While a second round pick wouldn’t be a horrible return for a guy like Kiefer Sherwood, who is unlikely to sign a contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks, the team is certainly hoping that he can start racking up the points more consistently so they can land that first round pick they desire.
