Following the trade of captain Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson has come under fire for reportedly breaking up the relationship between the both of them, and the Vancouver Canucks are urged to trade him as well.
“His final few months as a Vancouver Canuck was marred by an alleged feud with his now ex-teammate Elias Pettersson, something former Head Coach Rick Tocchet spoke about as the 2024-25 season came to a close.”-Jaxon
Do the Vancouver Canucks need to trade Elias Pettersson?
Arpan on X expressed his frustration with several people defending Pettersson, claiming the Canucks need to keep him. But he is always at the center of feuds between teammates, now recently reports are circulating that him and Hughes weren’t getting along.
Some of you have been defending Petey like it’s your job. He needs to be the next one gone. Hughes leaving is as much of an indictment on EP40 as any other individual player. When it started, it was supposed to be Petey and Hughes conquering the west.
It would be very difficult to move Pettersson as he has a No Move Clause, on top of that he has a high cap hit of $11.6M AAV. But it’s starting to feel like he is a cancer in the locker room. He also wasn’t invited to Hughes farewell dinner before being traded.
«sources have said Hughes and Pettersson have generally just drifted apart. As important Hughes was in supporting his teammate last season, he still had grown frustrated with Pettersson’s work ethic.»
It shows that their relationship has deteriorated, the same occurred with Miller, and Bo Horvat was also involved and ended up getting traded. And most importantly Hughes had an issue with Pettersson’s work ethic. And when your supposed best player and highest paid player isn’t working hard enough, the rest of the team is either not going to work hard, or grow resentful of his laziness.
If these things are all true the Canucks need to consider trading Pettersson, because a new wave of players are coming in, and they cannot be affected by this kind of mentality.
